How to Choose the Right Freight Shipping Method
Start with four questions about size, timing, distance, and handling. The right mode usually becomes obvious.
Most freight decisions come down to four questions. Answering them before you request a quote makes the conversation faster and the recommendation better.
1. How big is the shipment?
A few pallets usually point to LTL. A full trailer points to FTL. In between, ask about volume LTL or partial truckload.
2. How firm is the delivery date?
If the date cannot move, favor direct options such as FTL or expedited service. If there is flexibility, LTL or intermodal may cost less.
3. How far is it going?
For long lanes with steady volume, intermodal can be a strong alternative to over-the-road trucking.
4. How sensitive is the freight?
Fragile or high-value freight benefits from fewer handoffs. Note any handling requirements on your quote request.
